The QFIC hails announcement of government investment

Investment in silviculture work

Québec City, February 10, 2015 – The Quebec Forest Industry Council (QFIC) welcomes the announcement by Mr. Philippe Couillard, Premier of Quebec, and Mr. Laurent Lessard, Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, of investments in silviculture work totalling $450 M over the next two years.

“By channelling appropriations toward the intensification of timber production and forestry planning, the Government of Quebec has shown its determination to increase the yield of our forests and create more wealth with our forest heritage. This announcement is excellent news in terms of both the development of the forest industry but and the development of Quebec and its regions,” declared Mr. André Tremblay, QFIC’s CEO.

The QFIC also hails the predictability accompanying the government announcement. “Confirmation of  allocations for silviculture work for a two-year period has established a precedent that will give forest businesses the predictability they have been calling for for a long time now,” concluded Mr. Tremblay.
